Viewers' Exposure to Medical Programs on Satellite Channels and Its Relationship to Their Health Awareness" Field Study

Abstract

This research aims to understand the role of medical programs on Egyptian satellite channels in raising health awareness among their viewers. It also seeks to identify the motivations and levels of reliance on these medical programs by the study's sample. Furthermore, the study aims to discover the most medical topics and issues that viewers, who are part of the study's sample, prefer to follow. Additionally, the study aims to investigate the cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and health effects resulting from this reliance. Finally, the research aims to understand and evaluate the opinions and strategies of those responsible for the communication in medical programs.The study utilized a survey questionnaire and conducted individual interviews with the communication team of these medical programs. The researcher selected several medical programs with the highest viewership based on a survey. A questionnaire was distributed to a sample of 400 individuals who are regular viewers of these programs. The study employed the media reliance theory and Walther's Social Information Processing theory to examine the degree of reliance on medical programs, the cognitive, behavioral, and emotional effects of media messages, and the functions performed by the media. This was done with the aim of contributing to building a comprehensive theoretical framework for the study, and to use it in interpreting and drawing conclusions from the results.The study found several key results, including:There is a strong and positive correlational relationship between the motivations for relying on medical programs as a source of health information and the degree.
