Abstract

This study aimed to quest and assess the effectiveness of a virtual reality-based teaching program in cultivating learning motivation for studying mathematics in female gifted high school students in Baha region in Saudi Arabia during the 3rd semester of the academic year 2021–2022. The method of this study was quasi-experimental with its one experimental group in design. The researcher designed and validated a 35-item scale to assess learning motivation for studying mathematics. In addition, a teaching program utilizing virtual reality as an educational tool was designed and implemented by the researcher in the class. The sample included 9 female gifted students in the 3rd grade of high school (12th grade). Statistical analysis of the sample's scores on the scale for assessing learning motivation for studying mathematics revealed a statistically significant (α<0.01) increase in learning motivation median scores within the experimental group with a high effect size of Es=0.836 after implementation. Virtual reality-based methods in education may effectively increase learning motivation for mathematics. So, the current study findings encourage utilizing virtual reality-based technologies for other subjects, highlighting the need to train teachers on implementing these technologies in classrooms.
