Abstract

Most of the studies that dealt with the history of the Crusades focused on monitoring the phenomenon in a framework that deals with the motives that produced it and examines its goals and the historical circumstances that surrounded it without addressing the study of the ideas and beliefs of that era. It had a great impact on the Crusaders, especially that the social life of the Crusaders was characterized by the supremacy of the religious spirit imbued with myths and legends. The Crusaders lived in a world burdened with metaphysical elements due to the control of the papacy and the church on cultural life in Europe at the time.
This study aims to shed light on the phenomenon of "Warrior Saints", and its role in the history of the Crusades. The Crusade belief was that God exists among them and protects them through mediators represented in angels and saints. The Crusaders believed in helping these saints to achieve victory over their enemies. There are examples that clearly confirm how this ploy, which made use of the religious sentiment of the Crusaders, was pushing them from despair to steadfastness and determination in the fight. The Crusaders leaders exploited this to arouse the enthusiasm of their soldiers to achieve victory over Muslims.
