Abstract

Abstract:
Any literary work contains hidden elements that reflect the psychological portrait of the author, as these elements influence their literary output with motives that may remain unconscious even to the author. These motives only manifest through analysis and interpretation, and by reading between the lines—first by the audience, and later by critics. Through this process, the underlying psychological meanings behind each rhetorical expression or artistic image become clear, demanding critical reading. This study aims to shed light on the phenomenon of (Rhetoric of Descriptive Narration) within the poems of three modern poets: (Abu El Kasim El Shabi, Hashim El Rifa'i, & Badr Shakir El Sayyab). These poets are bound by the shared fate of their premature deaths and the profound richness of their literary contributions. As we delve into the poems of these poets, we discover their mastery in the employment of the rhetorical description rooted in artistic narration across all its technical levels. They skillfully harnessed the expressive power of both techniques, laying bare the emotions hidden deep within them—their melancholy, the silent anguish in their hearts, a yearning for a lost past, the sting of betrayal surrounding them, and an ongoing inner turmoil. These and other psychological undercurrents are subtly embedded in their verses, reflecting the depth of their emotional and mental landscapes. These poems reflected their diverse yet similar experiences. These poets distinguished themselves in portraying their struggles with a harsh reality, channeling their experiences to the reader through a variety of eloquent artistic techniques.
