Abstract

The aim of the current study was to improve the quality of life for patients with Bipolar Affective Disorder, Type II, after the implementation of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) sessions. The experimental method was used, with CBT being the independent variable and quality of life as the dependent variable. The study sample consisted of 32 patients diagnosed with Bipolar Affective Disorder, Type II, who were divided into an experimental group of 16 and a control group of 16, including both males and females, aged between 17 and 25 years. The study included an initial data sheet (prepared by the researcher), the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5), the World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale (1995), translated by Bushra Ismail Ahmed (2000), and the cognitive behavioral program (prepared by the researcher).

The cognitive behavioral program consisted of 14 sessions, divided into 7 cognitive therapy sessions and 7 behavioral therapy sessions. Cognitive therapy sessions were held twice a week, while behavioral therapy sessions were held once a week. Each session lasted for 60 minutes over a 10-week period.

The results of the study revealed the effectiveness of the cognitive behavioral program in improving the quality of life of patients with Bipolar Affective Disorder, as observed in both the post-test and follow-up assessments.
