Abstract

Nubia received a lot of attention during the reign of the kings of the New Kingdom, especially King Ramesses II. He built a large number of temples in Nubia to emphasize his dominance and control over Nubia. Nubia was of great importance because it had gold mines and also to secure the country from the southern borders.
The temple of Gerf Hussein has been mentioned in Modern times by travelers, archaeologists and those who studied the site without visiting it. The researcher arranged them according to the date of each person’s visit to the site or the date of his book in which he or she discussed the site and the temple. Their works did not lose their importance, as they did not only provide valuable notes about the situation in the country, its customs, traditions and beliefs of its people; but they also provided a description of a series of antiquities that have disappeared at the present time or are still in ruins. The description always included wonderful drawings made by those travelers. Moreover, those works also contained very valuable information. Hence, we conclude that we have visitors and travelers of different nationalities: French, British, German, English, Italian, Swiss and others. Some of them are photographers, writers, doctors, engineers, sculptors, Egyptologists, princes, officers and clerics. However, their records are useful in knowing the region.
