Abstract

The current research aims to construct a scale for cognitive distortions and another for psychological capital, and to calibrate them according to item response theory, using Rasch model of the rating scale. This is in addition to revealing the relationship between cognitive distortions and psychological capital among female university students. The research tools were applied to four groups of female students at the Faculty of Women, Ain Shams University, in the first year of the academic year (2023-2024). These groups represented a group to verify the psychometric efficiency of the tools before grading, which amounted to (200) female students, and Descriptive correlational study group which amounted to (100) students, and two groups to calibrate the cognitive distortions and psychological capital scales, which consisted of (930) and (823) female students, respectively. Winsteps statistical analysis program was used to analyze the sample responses to the items of each scale. The pre-grading cognitive distortions scale consisted of (58) items covering nine sub-dimensions, and the pre-grading psychological capital scale consisted of (37) items covering four sub-dimensions. The results showed the possibility of grading the items of each scale separately using The Rasch model on a single linear scale with one zero and a fixed measurement unit (logit), The number of items on the cognitive distortions and psychological capital scales in their final form amounted to (56) and (35) items, respectively. The results also revealed anegative relationship between cognitive distortions and their sub-dimensions and psychological capital and its sub-dimensions among female university students
