The Effectiveness of a Program Based on Health Psychology Cases in Developing Preventive Health Awareness of Secondary School Psychology Students

Abstract

The aim of the research is to: reveal the effectiveness of a proposed program based on health psychology issues to develop awareness of preventive health among secondary school students studying psychology. The researcher followed the single-group experimental method for the pre-and post-application of the research tools. The research sample consisted of (30) second-year secondary school students studying psychology at Darawa Secondary School – Menoufia Governorate. The experimental materials were represented in (a proposed program based on health psychology issues-student book- teacher's guide- worksheets). The research tools were represented in (an achievement test in the cognitive aspect of preventive health awareness- attest of attitudes in preventive health awareness- a measure of preventive health awareness). The research tools were applied pre- and post- tests to the research sample, then the data were processed statistically. The research results showed statistically significant differences at a significance level of (0.05) between the average scores of second- year secondary school students studying psychology in pre- and post- tests of the research tools, in favor of the post- test. In light of the research results, a number of recommendation were presented, including: paying attention to holding educational courses for students on health psychology and its issues, working to increase students' awareness of the need to practice behaviors that enable them to maintain their health, and proposing training programing psychology teachers to spread awareness of behavioral factors associated with maintaining health.
