Abstract

Oil is considered a vital sector upon which the Libyan state relies. The importance of oil lies in its being an important source of energy and a raw material for many industries. It is the most significant source of income for many countries and sometimes the primary source. For national income, as is the case in Libya, it contributes to building political and economic power, as well as developing various economic sectors of the country. It is considered the most significant resource contributing to the gross domestic product and government revenues. The research addresses the geological development of the country during that era and how oil was formed over geological times, in addition to the stages of discovery. Oil in Libya and the companies that participated in its exploration, as well as the number of discovered fields, are continuously evolving, whether in terms of quantity, production, or even reserve estimation. Libya's production in the early 1970s was about three. Millions of barrels daily, but this production has decreased to two million barrels per day to preserve this resource from depletion. The advantages of Libyan oil played a significant role in attracting foreign companies to discover new sites, leading to changes in Libyan oil exports. The Libyan government has paid great attention to controlling the oil wealth and has issued many lawsregulating the work of companies
