A PROPOSED PROGRAM BASED ON THE DIALOGUE OF CIVILIZATIONS TO DEVELOP AWARENESS OF CULTURAL IDENTITY IN HISTORY FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract

The current research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a proposed program based on the Dialogue of Civilizations in developing awareness of cultural identity in the history subject among secondary school students. The research sample consisted of ( 80 ) students. The researcher employed the descriptive-analytical method to study the research variables [Dialogue of Civilizations, awareness of cultural identity ]. Experimental materials were prepared, including [ two proposed units, a teacher’s guide, a student activity booklet, and worksheets ], in accordance with the dimensions of the Dialogue of Civilizations. Evaluation tools were also developed, consisting of [a cultural identity awareness test with its three dimensions ( cognitive, behavioral, and emotional ) ] . The research further adopted the quasi-experimental method to apply the evaluation tools pre- and post-experimentally. The research results indicated the following : A statistically significant difference at the ( 0.01 ) level in the pre- and post-applications of the cultural identity awareness test, favoring the post-application. A statistically significant difference at the ( 0.01 ) level in the pre- and post-applications of the cultural identity scale, favoring the post-application. A statistically significant difference at the ( 0.01 ) level in the attitudes test, favoring the post-application. The proposed program achieves an appropriate level of effectiveness in developing cultural identity awareness among students. The study recommended the necessity of conducting more research studies that focus on the effectiveness of dialogue of civilizations strategies in education and contribute to improving the quality of educational curricula.
