Abstract

Abstract:
This research, titled "Euthanasia according to Joseph Francis Fletcher," highlights the importance of clarifying Joseph Francis Fletcher's view and thought on one of the most significant philosophical issues in applied ethics, especially in the medical field: his perspective and opinion on euthanasia, the reasons that led him to contemplate it, and his evidence for justifying its availability to people. This issue has garnered considerable attention from many individuals, especially with the tremendous developments it has reached in this century, and the extent of interest from scholars, thinkers, and philosophers in applied ethics. Whether this matter has found a number of supporters or opponents, and what are the foundations they relied upon, whether for supporters or opponents if any. In addressing this matter, considering Fletcher as one of the leading pioneers and founders of applied ethics, we attempt to answer several key questions, including what euthanasia means to him, whether this is a modern concept or one that was previously known and recognized, and what different and new aspects he presents compared to his predecessors. We will address these questions in light of the diverse methodologies relied upon by Joseph Francis Fletcher.
