The relationship between psychological well- being and coping styles among grandmothers who take care of their grandchildren

Abstract

The aim of the current research to revealing the relationship between psychological well- being and coping styles , as well as studing the differences in the methods of coping with stress according to the marital status of these grandmothers, and the number of grandchildren you take care of them, the research sample consisted of (30) grandmothers whose ages ranged between (60-65) years , with an average age of (62.5) , and they retired form official work ( on apension) , their level of education is average , and their enonomic and social level is average . The number of grandchildren under their care rangs from (2-3) grandchildren , whose ages ranged between (2-10) years . the research tools consisted of ascale of coping methods for grandmothers, prepared ( by the researcher ), and the scale of psychological well- being ( Ryff,1989 , translated by safaa Al-aser,2016). The results showed that there is astatistically significant positive correlation between coping methods of positive stress and psychological well- being , and astatistically significant negative correlation between coping methods of negative stress and psychological well- being , the results of the research also showed that there are differences in the methods of coping with stress according to the social status of the grandmothers and the number of grandchildren you take care of them , the difference was in favor of the married grandmothers in the use of positive methods to cope with pressure compared to the widows ,
