Abstract

This study aims to identify the types of folk art employed by the Artistic Creativity Center in Children's Cancer Hospital 57357 and the extent of their impact on the sick children. The study draws on theoretical issues and concepts such as Functional Theory, Symbolic Interactionism, Color Theory, concepts of folk art, art therapy, health, and illness. Methodologically, the study adopts the anthropological approach with its various tools, including observation, participatory observation, photography, interviews, recording, fieldwork guide, and their application on ill children and workshop specialists. The study includes 12 case studies, 7 males and 5 females, suffering from various diseases. The study reached a set of results, the most important of which are: folk art contributes to improving the psychological condition of sick children, helps in building self-confidence, and enhances the sense of pleasure and achievement. It also assists them in overcoming the treatment period, raising their morale after the impact of the disease on their spiritual and energy level. The researcher observed these differences during fieldwork and her presence with different children over periods of time, which became evident in their creative artistic works and continuous exhibitions. The workshop specialists greatly helped children in overcoming their treatment phase due to their strong affection and their fear and encouragement for them. Love, care, encouragement of talent, and assistance in their development and progress greatly contributed to enhancing self-confidence and, consequently, improving recovery rates.
