Abstract

This study examines an important political transformation phase in the history of the Emirate of Sharjah. As this period witnessed the peak of the nationalist tide against colonialism, the effects of which extended to the Arabian Gulf. The residents of the Gulf lived through these Arab events and were affected by them, and they had an impact on the life in Sharjah and had major impacts on the economy and society there. Studying the economic and social conditions of the Emirate of Sharjah in that period is important for understanding the political transformations that took place in it and their results that changed the life in Sharjah. To trace the changes that occurred in Sharjah’s society and economy, we divided the study period into two stages: the period of Sheikh SAQR BIN SULTAN AL QASIMI, which extended from the years 1951 to 1965, and whose period represented the search for economic resources to support development of the Emirate, and the obstacles that he faced. This Era also witnessed the beginning of formal education in the Emirate and the beginning of the cultural transformation also in all the Trucial Coast. The second stage was the period of SHEIKH KHALID BIN MUHAMMAD AL QASIMI, which extended from the years 1965 to 1972, which witnessed the launch of development and development projects in Sharjah, as well as the great development that changed the shape of society in all aspects and shaped the present that we live in now.
