A Proposal for Activating Extra-curricular activities for Secondary School Students’ Development of Citizenship Values in Egypt

Abstract

This aims to recognize extra-curricular activities’ role in the citizenship values development for activation pertaining to secondary school students. Researcher used the descriptive approach, as the most notable results thereof: social responsibility resulting that extra-curricular activities contribute in the students’ formation and preparation towards good citizenship; participation resulting that extra-curricular activities have a role in the participation values development, students’ participation allow them gain new friendships and leadership skills, freedom and equality resulting that extra-curricular activities have a role in developing freedom value to enable students select the suitable activity for participation as well in developing equality value. Activity Teacher has to treat all students indiscriminately; loyalty and belonging resulting that extra-curricular activities participate in developing social relationships among students in terms of fostering their sense of belonging towards the country. Recommendations of the importance of time and place strategic planning of such activities to fit with course schedule; material and moral support, appropriate budget for activating such various activities; alleviating the participant teachers’ quorums, activating and varying the said activities in secondary schools.
