Improving mindfulness and executive functions to reduce ADHD symptoms among children

Abstract

Abstract:
The study aimed to explore the effectivness of mindfulness in improing executive functions among children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The study sample included 10 children (6 male and 4 female) aged between 6 to 12 years. The study tools included Barkely deficits in executive functions scale) designed by Barkely and translated by the researchers) , mindfulness scale( designed by the researchers) and the mindfulness based program (designed by the researchers), which consisted of 20 sessions, two sessions applied weekly and each session lasted for 45 minutes. The study results proved the effectiveness of the program in improving executive functions and mindfulness among children with Adhd. Improved executive functions are like time management and self regulation. Mindfulness improved components are observation, description and mindful awareness. In addition, symptoms of attention deficent and hyperactivity reduced among the study sample. In conclusion, study implications and recommendations were introduced. More over suggested future researches were discussed.
