Mental health and its relationship to the problem solving style of university students

Abstract

The current study aimed to study the relationship between mental health and problem-solving style among university students, in addition to evaluating the level of mental health, identifying the most common problem-solving styles among university students. To achieve this, the researcher applied the Arab scale of mental health (prepared by Abdel-Khalek, 2015), and the scale of problem-solving style (prepared by the researcher) on (394) male and female students from several universities in the Arab Republic of Egypt (Ain Shams University, Cairo University, Helwan University, Beni Soueif University, Minia University, Derayah University, German University in Cairo).
Results :- University students enjoy a good level of mental health, and with regard to the problem-solving style used by university students, the social support style is the most common problem-solving style, followed by the rational style, followed by the interactive religiosity style , then The inventive style, followed by the emotional style, and finally the neglectful style . There is a significant correlation between mental health and the problem-solving style, where mental health was positively associated with the rational, the innovative, the social support style, as well as the interactive religiosity, while it was negatively associated with the emotional style and the neglect style.
