Abstract

The study aims to highlight the relationship between the Qarmatians and the Fatimids, during the period when Qarmatians appeared on the scene of political events, at the end of the 3rd century and the beginning of the 4th century AH / the 9th and 10th centuries AD. The Qarmatians and the Fatimids are an integral part of the early Ismaili Dawa. Both were created by their preachers, indicating a link between the Qarmatians and the Fatimids. Although some try to deny this link, there are many evidences that confirm its existence, which will be clarified during this study. The study also aims to indicate the type of those ties that linked them: Were they sectarian ties? or did they include other aspects: political and economic? Were those ties permanent? or intermittent? The most important thing is to clarify the extent of the influence of this Fatimid-Qarmatian relationship on both sides, especially the Qarmatians, and to what extent it affected the course of affairs in the Islamic world. Both the Qarmatians and the Fatimids formed a major political force that occupied the Abbasid Caliphate and the Islamic world for a period of time, until the matter ended with the final elimination of the Qarmatians. The Fatimids were able to establish a state for them in the Maghreb and Egypt and the Levant was annexed to it. It extended to Mecca and Hijaz against the Abbasid Caliphate authority, and against their Qarmatian followers.
