Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the level of practice of female biology teachers in the secondary stage in scientific and engineering practices according to NGSS standards. The researcher used a descriptive survey method, and the research community consisted of all biology teachers in the government schools in Al-Majmaah province, totaling 19 teachers. To achieve the research objectives, the researcher designed an observation card, which was applied to a sample of 19 biology teachers and consisted of four axes covering 18 items. The validity and reliability of the tool were ensured using scientific methods. The results of the research showed that the level of practice of female biology teachers in the secondary stage in scientific and engineering practices according to NGSS standards was weak. Asking questions and identifying problems were practiced at a moderate level with an average score of (2.76), while developing and using models had a weak level of practice with an average score of (2.29). Planning and conducting investigations had a weak level of practice with an average score of (2.35), and data analysis and interpretation had a weak level of practice with an average score of (2.46). In light of these results, the research presented several recommendations and proposals, the most important of which is the necessity to educate teachers about scientific and engineering practices by establishing integrated training programs to familiarize them with these practices.
