Myths serve several functions, including social, historical, psychological and linguistic functions, Thus, critics have rushed into examining myths and the creative have been inspired by these myths in their works; as they realize the richness and wide knowledge of this field. So, this interest has generated a method which the critics rely on in interpreting and analyzing literature. To poets, myths have become a main source of inspiration which they resort to. As such, the poetry of Naguib Surur is full of numerous mythological figures which primarily reflect the poet's preoccupation and attention to the national concerns, This research aims to shed light on all of the above through presenting the Arabic and western linguistic definitions of myths, and demonstrates the impact of myths on Naguib Surur's poetry.
