“The Relationship Between Optimism, Happiness, And Academic Achievement Among Female University Students”

Abstract

The research aims at exploring the relationship between optimism, on the one hand, and Happiness and academic achievement, on the other, among female university students. The research is based on the comparative correlational descriptive approach since it is appropriate for the objectives and the assumptions of the study. The sample of the study consisted of 180 female students who are enrolled at the third year in the faculties of Suez University, from both specializations, the scientific and the literary. The researcher has used the optimism and pessimism scale (prepared byAmna Mohamed Alokashi, 2015), as well as Happiness scale (prepared by Abeer Nasr Eldeen, 2009), The research has revealed a statistically significant correlation between optimism, on the one hand, and Happiness and academic achievement, at The level of significance (0.01 = α). on the other; moreover, there is a statistically significant positive correlation between Happiness and academic achievement at The level of significance (0.01 = α) . However, there are no differences in the average levels of optimism and pessimism and the specialization (scientific - literary) among the students. In addition, there are no differences in the average levels of Happiness and the specialization (scientific - literary) at The level of significance (0.05 = α).
