The Virtue of Bravery in Al-Buhturi’s Enthusiasm Poetry

Abstract

Poetry is considered the mirror of Arabs and the interpreter of their emotions. It is loaded with virtues and morals as it often came with noble manners which Arabs Should have. The poems which praise moralities are numerous; Arabs knew their foundations, called for them, and bequeathed them to their offspring. Thus, the Arabic ideals were presented in a variety of good manners; top of which is bravery. This quality has appeared in their poetry, and every incident which represents the meaning of courage was celebrated in it. Arabs have praised steadfastness in the battlefield, lethality, relieving needy people, protecting the weak ones, helping those who seek their aid, and forgiveness at times when persons have the ability to avenge on others.
The study aims at clarifying the parameters which express the virtue of bravery in ancient Arab poetry, as well as its role in the life of Arabs. The study is, thus, interested in the poetry of bravery in selections of Al-Buhturi’s Enthusiasm Poetry, through clarifying the Arabs’ keenness on representing this moral in their poetry. The study has relied on the analytical descriptive approach related to induction; this is based on a meticulous reading of the selections under study to identify the aspects of bravery and studying them in the light of the analytical descriptive approach through searching for the areas it revolves around and dealing with them from an analytical aesthetic perspective to attain the meanings of bravery.
