Early Divorce in the countryside-A field study on An Egyptian Village

Abstract

This research drives at identifying the phenomenon of early divorce in the rural community; since most of the studies see the phenomenon of early divorce as an urban phenomenon in the first place. Therefore, the study exposes the most important social and cultural reasons that lead to the spread out of this phenomenon in the countryside, in addition to shedding light on the repercussions of this phenomenon on both the wife and children. The study also attempts to identify the view of The rural community of newly married divorcees. The research relies on the Structural Functionalism Theory, and the Feminist Theory as a theoretical framework for the study. She has also used the socio-anthropological approach, which combines quantitative and qualitative analysis. In terms of the quantitative method, the researcher relies on the social survey approach, using the questionnaire as a tool for data collection. The questionnaire has been applied to a random sample of (200) women attending the family court in the Kom Hamada Center in Behaira Governorate. Regarding the qualitative method, the researcher has used the case study approach, using the in-depth interview with (21) cases of newly married divorcees whose marriage period did not exceed 5 years, including the years of separation until the occurrence of the official divorce.
