Key Personality Traits of the Newly Recovered & Relapsing Addicts in Rehabilitation Centers (Comparative Study)

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the differences in the key personality traits of the (Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness) among the newly recovered & relapsing addicts in rehabilitation centers. The study was conducted on a sample of (40) newly recovered addicts and (40) relapsing addicts from the rehabilitation centers. The study tool used is the "List of the Big Five Personality Factors for Costa and Macri, 1992", the localized version by Bader Muhammed Al-Ansari, 1997. In addition to using the reliability and consistency coefficient "Cronbach's Alpha" and the "Spearman's Rank Correlation Coefficient", also known as "Spearman-Brown Formula" by the split-half reliability method and the "T" test, applied to two independent samples. The conclusions reached under this study resulted in partial acceptance of the study hypothesis, which leads to "there are substantial statistically significant differences between the mean scores of newly recovered addicts and relapsing addicts with regard to the personality traits of each." Where differences appeared in the Factor of Extraversion and Factor of Agreeableness.
