Sensation, for example, can only take place if the stimulus is kept for a very short period, and attention also requires a short-term memory, although the stimulus is kept in this process. The condition is for a slightly longer period than in the case of sensation, and attention, like perception, may depend on previous experiences with the stimulus, in addition to that it is stored in memory for much longer periods of time..
