Developing Scientific Research in Egyptian Universities to keep pace with the Fourth Industrial Revolution in the light of Harvard University Model

Abstract

Since the beginning of the fourth industrial revolution, the world has been witnessing an era of transformation of knowledge into power. Within this context, the universities’ scientific research plays a crucial role in shaping the nation’s future by significantly contributing in economic development advances. This research aims at identifying the most important requirements of Egyptian universities’ scientific research development to keep pace with the fourth industrial revolution in light of Harvard University model. The research used the descriptive methodology, being suitable to the nature of study. Under this approach, the conceptual framework of the fourth industrial revolution is presented and analyzed in terms of inception, conception, characteristics and dynamics. The research also provides a description and analysis of the interrelationship between the universities’ scientific research and the fourth industrial revolution, followed by presentation of Harvard University, USA, a leading global model in scientific research development in light of the fourth industrial revolution requirements. Harvard University model was analyzed subject to the university’s vision, mission, smart leadership, governance, smart infrastructure, creativity, business leadership, relationship with the industrial sector and scientific research funding. The research provides a realistic presentation of the Egyptian universities’ scientific research through monitoring and analyzing the scientific research status quo in the Egyptian universities in light of the fourth industrial revolution. The research concluded by the most important requirements of Egyptian universities’ scientific research development to keep pace with the fourth industrial revolution in light of Harvard University model.
