Abstract

The current study aims to uncover the rate at which social media researchers follow up and to determine the confidence of social media reporters as a source of news and information, while explaining the reasons for rumors on social media networks from the point of view of the Egyptian public, officials and media experts. In addition to the role played by the Council of Ministers' Information Centre, the study also used the Public Domain Theory and the wealth of the medium.
The study is based on a two-part survey of the public and a content survey. The study consists of the Egyptian public, who use social media sites at various levels.
The main findings of the study were that social rumors ranked in the first place at 37.95% in the Media Centre of the Egyptian Council of Ministers, followed by 20.6% in education, and that the government met the needs of the public by responding to rumors of 68.5%.
