Argumentative Significance of Metaphor in Effect of The Text and The Purpose of The Form A Study in the debates of Mahmoud Mohamed Shaker

Abstract

This study aims to identify the mechanism of metaphors effect within argumentative contexts and to determine what gives it an effectual ability formed through the verbal activity resulting from its position within the verbal text, and to indicate whether the formed text and its syntax have a role of strengthening the verbal activity and verbal argument in the recipient. Through the descriptive-analytical approach, the study as a starting point to prove an assumption that: The process of sensory presentation and the semantic filling that follows forming the verbal act directed to the recipient and that formation is not arbitrary, but is based on a process of semantic choice through the material of the form and the selected form.
Accordingly, this research came as an attempt to reveal the mechanism of forming of artistic images within the argumentative utterances and to know its two components (material and form); in order to determine the nature of the argumentative vectors within these images, which would elicit a response in the recipient, the reader. The study examines a polemical blog that spanned decades. Namely, the blog of Professor Mahmoud Muhammad Shaker. The study concluded that the nature of the material constituting the metaphor plays a significant role in achieving the desired effect of metaphorical image it’s on the recipient. Especially if the material is extracted from the real life, or from his heritage rooted in his conscience , which applies to the form chosen by the sender as a form for the argumentative image.
