Abstract

This study aims to identify the various strategies and procedures that some translators of the Glorious Qur’an use in rendering ideological Islamic-related texts focusing on the lexemes of Alquwwah and Alda’f “ power and weakness” from Arabic into English, To achieve these purposes, Lawrence Venuti’s model (1995) is employed as the first theoretical framework for the contemporary study, he introduces foreignization and domestication strategies and the dichotomy between them as an ideology that can be applied in translating religious texts. The study accounts for the different procedures and strategies translators of the religious genre adopt. Furthermore, the study attempts to investigate the semantic concepts of Alquwwah and Alda’f “power and weakness” presenting how they are conceptualized and metaphorically realized in human image by using the second theoretical framework; Conceptual Metaphor Theory by Lakoff & Johnson(1980), it shows that alquwwah is conceptualized in terms of not only human physical strength and authority but also in terms of determination, youth, angelic hidden ability and the divine ability of Allah. Moreover, alda’f is conceptualized not only in its universal image but it is also conceptualized in terms of , aging, disability, oppression, illiteracy, lust Furthermore, the study reveals that the translators face some problems when rendering the texts such as the inability to deal with the ideological implicature, the differences between the translators' semantic and syntactic mediation and the lack of knowledge. Finally, many other lexemes are recommended to be investigated in their translations such as Al azeez, Al mateen, Alkahar, Algabaar…etc
