The Effectiveness of aprposed Unit based on an Approach of Interdisciplinary Studies to Develop the Cognitive Aspect of Environmental Awareness among primary school students

Abstract

The aim of the current research is to reveal the effectiveness of a proposed unit based on an Approach of Interdisciplinary Studies to Develop the Cognitive Aspect of Environmental Awareness among Primary School Students . To fulfill this target, the teacher’s manual, the student’s book, and an achievement test that measures the cognitive feature of environmental awareness of the student were prepared. The research group was selected ( it follows the one-group structure ) , and the research sample consisted of (30) male and femal students. Its tools were applied first to the experimental group, then the study group was taught using the approach of interdisciplinary studies, the study tools were applied afterwards on the study group. The results of the research showed that there was a statistically significant difference at the level of (0.01) among the average scores of the experimental group students in the two phases of the achievement test ( the pre-test phase, and the post-test phase ) for the cognitive aspect of environmental awareness as awhole and for each level separately in favor of the post-test as well. Therefore, the research recommended the necessity of using the approach of Interdisciplinary studies in other courses and other stages of pre-university education, and the need to develop environmental awareness among students so that they can predict what might happen in the future and find many solutions to the problems they face .
