Mothers ’parental competence and its relationship to social behavior among the mentally disabled children who are able to learn

Abstract

The study aimed to show the relationship between mothers ’parental competence and its relationship to social behavior among the mentally disabled children who are able to learn, and the study sample was chosen from the two schools of intellectual education in Kafr El-Sheikh and Desouq, as well as Zahra Hospital in Desouk, the number of the sample was (95) children, girl and their mothers, with an average age of (M= 9,65), and (S.D =1,078), The study used the measure of parental competence for mothers (prepared by the researcher), and the scale of social behavior for children with disabilities. The results of the study found that there was a positive correlation between the parental competence of mothers and social behavior, as well as the existence of differences between mothers of mentally handicapped children who were able to learn on the scale of parental competence according to the place of residence (rural - urban) in favor of urban mothers, as well as the difference in the work of the mother, in favor of the mother who doesn't work.
