Abstract

The fusion union between Egypt and Syria was a unique experience, and its short life (from February 24, 1958 to September 28, 1961) indicates that it did not last more than three years and seven months, for the complicity of all the forces hostile to the existence of the nation and its progress from inside and outside, and there is no doubt The agreement of the Egyptian and Syrian governments on unity, and the establishment of the United Arab Republic, constitute an important historical event within the framework of the Arab unitary experiences. The unity talks lasted for a short period, and the union took place under the insistence of the military establishment and the pressure of the Syrian masses. The “United Arab Republic” was considered the real name of the united state between the “Republic of Egypt” and the “Syrian Republic.” On February 21, President Gamal Abdel Nasser was elected as its president, and on the 5 March 1958 issued its provisional constitution.

In the fifties and sixties of the twentieth century, the Arab region witnessed an unprecedented political and social movement, and the Arab world was characterized by national awareness within all its parts, and the Arab region witnessed deep external interference, and the conflict emerged between the unitary Arab national forces and the local, regional and international counter forces, and with the achievement of the Egyptian-Syrian experience of unity. Western fears increased, given the United Arab Republic's response to various external interventions and dangers in the region.
