Abstract

The aim of the current research is to develop the science curriculum in the light of scientific and engineering practices and its impact on developing deep understanding and academic self-efficacy among middle school students. A unit of the developed curriculum units "Water" on a group of thirty third preparatory grade students at An-Najah School for Girls in the Desouq Educational Administration in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate to demonstrate the effectiveness of the (developed curriculum in the light of scientific and engineering practices) on developing deep understanding and academic self-efficacy, and the results showed the effectiveness The developed curriculum in the light of scientific and engineering practices in the development of deep understanding and academic self-efficacy among the third year middle school students, and there is a statistically significant difference at the level of significance (α 0.05) between the mean scores of the students of the research group in the pre and post applications to test the skills of deep understanding in favor of the post application. The research recommends the necessity of evaluating and developing science curricula in the preparatory stage in light of the new generation of science standards (NGSS) and trying to spread scientific and engineering practices in the different academic levels starting from (K-12) between the different educational systems and benefiting from the curriculum that was prepared in developing the science curriculum in the stage Junior high .
