ISAF conflict and expansionist strategy on the Mediterranean coast in the mid-sixteenth century

Abstract

The Mediterranean during the 16th century was described as a "battleground."That battle was between two international powers, the Kingdom of Spain in the West and the Ottoman State in the East. The sixth-century witnessed evidence of the Ottoman Power's power and expansion, as well as the rise of Spain's power after its unification by Ferdinand and Isabella. The Mediterranean Sea was a meeting point for the expansions of those international.


The problem of the study and its aspects is numerous, not only in the importance of the Mediterranean Sea but also in the many international conflicts in the Mediterranean basin. What is the expansionist strategy pursued by international forces in expanding their presence on the Mediterranean coast?

The importance of the study goes back to the important role played by the Mediterranean, and we are not exaggerated if we say: In view of the strategic or economic importance of the Mediterranean Basin, the maritime powers have played a role in shaping modern history and in leading many international conflicts. They allow us to look at the real causes of the conflicts between the Ottoman State and Spain, to study the conflict comprehensively in all aspects, to explain how the Ottoman expansion and its strategy on the Mediterranean coast and its conflict with the European Powers of the period, and the impact of this expansion and the conflict on the North.
