Social Media addiction and its relationship to social isolation in adolescents

Abstract

The current stud aims to uncover the relationship between social media addiction and social isolation. The sample of the study consisted of 60 middle school students, and the following tools were used: the measure of social media addiction scale, prepared by/ Basma Hussein Eid, and the social isolation scale prepared by/ Ahmed Muhammad Khalifa, and the results of the study found prevalence in the level of social media addiction and social isolation. The levels of social media addiction were determined in terms of high addiction and reasonable than average and above average. The levels of social isolation were determined in percentage terms in terms of high social isolation, less than average and above average. There is also a positive correlation significant statistical evidence between social media addiction and social isolation among adolescents, by finding the correlation coefficient between the responses of the research sample on the social media addiction scale and their responses to social isolation, there are also statistically significant differences between the average of social media addicts and non-addicts to social media sites in social isolation, which indicates the presence of an effect of the level of addiction on social isolation as we note that social media addiction to social networking sites as a result of their statistically high average mean average non social media addiction
