Storage jars (Amphorae)in the New Kingdom Egypt

Abstract

Pottery Vessels are Material Evidence for Economice and Social History of Economies ,Societies and Civilization. Storage Jars are considered one of the best Historical and Archaeological Sources for tracing trade relations in the ancient World ,Especially liquids such as Wine, oils, Honey, Ointments, , and Perfumes. The scenes of the shapes of the vessels on the Walls of Tombs and Temples give a clear picture of the use of the vessel. Amphorae was used as a container to transport the country's products that were given to Egypt as tribute, as well as taxes. It was also used to preserve birds, fish and other products that need to be stored for longer periods of time. Amphorae were marked with Label s and stamp usually indicating the date and place of production and the contents of the jar. These Amphoras were also used after the end of their role as a storage vessel in burying Babies, or using a Shaduf for raising water to irrigate the ground . its Lower part used in Washing and Clothes tincture.
