Presidential discourses on youth and issues of Egyptian society: a discourse analysis study

Abstract

The revolution of January 25 and its second wave on June 30 constituted an important and decisive stage in the life of Egyptians, which left its effects on society as a whole. The political situation has become a preoccupation for the majority of the various groups of the Egyptian people, especially the youth. Discussing political issues has become dominant in the public sphere and consequently, those in charge of them have a great role in directing public opinion,Presidential speeches, especially those related to youth issues, are considered an important vital topic, as Arab media studies are scarce that have focused on analyzing presidential speeches, especially in the period that Egypt is currently going through with its political changes and societal fluctuations, Therefore, the study aims to "monitor and analyze the most important issues dealt with in presidential speeches on youth, including the opinions and directions they contain in shaping public opinion trends towards political issues and directing the public sphere towards democracy", in order to identify the most important political issues on which the presidential speeches focused,Identify the trends supported by presidential speeches, uncover the most important political issues that university youth follow and care about, and reveal the most important symbols and indications that are used to support messages addressed through presidential speeches (subject of study).
