Social, Economic and Psychological Characteristics of Slums' Dwellers in Light Of Quality of Life Indicators and Their Needs to New Communities (A Field Study on Ezbat Abou Qarn and Ezbat Abou El-Soud in Misr El-Kadima Quarter)

Abstract

Abstract
        The study aimed to identify the social, economic and psychological characteristics of slum dwellers in light of indicators of quality of life and their needs for new communities. The creation of new societies in Egypt was not independent in itself, but rather was a means to achieve some strategic goals to solve some of the problems of slums, including social, psychological and economic problems, and in view of the transformations and changes that took place in the community from creating a social order in which conflicts, competition and weak social relations between the members of society prevailed.
 
The study used the descriptive method for its suitability to the nature of the study, and the theoretical starting point of the study was the theory of the ladder of needs (Abraham Maslow). His theory of needs is one of the known theories in psychology that explained the needs of the individual and classified them according to their priority in terms of their necessity and importance. Maslow extended psychology to a new direction and a new movement that differs in it dealt with the two behavioral schools and psychological analysis. The research community consisted of slum dwellers affiliated with the Old Cairo Police Department. The study included three fields, namely, the geographical field: (in Ezbet Abu Qarn and Ezbet Abu Al Saud) from the Old Cairo neighborhood - and the human field may determine the number of individuals (100) from each farm - the temporal domain: where the field study was conducted in the period from October 2019 To 31 December 2019. Using the theories of (crowding theory) and (Parker), the researcher used two tools: the first is a questionnaire to measure the indicators of quality of life for slum dwellers and the second is to measure the satisfaction of social, economic and psychological needs, and among the most important findings of the study: the availability of a sense of belonging, the lack of privacy in the home, some Families in slum areas are permanent social hotspots for society, anxiety and deviation, the lack of safety and security for slum dwellers, the negatives of the role of localities in implementing the necessary laws. Among the most important recommendations reached by this study: the need to provide security points within neighborhoods to maintain security, work to resolve disputes between citizens with the knowledge of the security authorities, provide job opportunities, the necessity of the disintegration of slums into distant areas due to their dangers to new societies. The need to pay attention to building a primary and secondary school.
