Developing Innovation in Egyptian universities in light of the National University of Singapore experience.

Abstract

Innovation has become a source of competitive advantage, as it drives social and economic change in the twenty-first century, which is witnessing sweeping bouts of scientific and technological innovation. To keep pace with or overcome these changes; The world needs all human capabilities and young people learn to be creative. Egypt aims to reach a creative, innovative and productive knowledge-based society for science, technology and knowledge supporting its growth and leadership by 2030. To achieve this, Egyptian universities have to launch innovative solutions to overcome development challenges. Therefore, the research aims to benefit from the expertise of innovative universities such as the National University of Singapore, with the aim of presenting a set of procedural proposals to develop innovation in Egyptian universities. The research used the descriptive approach. The most important proposals presented are the following: Providing education that supports innovation in universities, through the adoption of comprehensive transformative education, which enables students to develop their skills and support the orientation towards interdisciplinary; Encouraging the use of design thinking in education and problem solving, as a way to encourage students and researchers to work more creatively, to develop distinct solutions to problems, and to generate and develop innovations in various disciplines; Launching various programs to attract talented students and researchers, in particular, in vital areas of innovation; Organizing many exhibitions, seminars, and competitions in the field of science, technology and innovation, throughout the year, to increase students' interest in science and innovation, to monitor, discover and encourage innovators.
