Abstract

Abstract
This paper is entitled (The late formulation of the institutional theory of art in George Dickie) and we have chosen this topic due to our belief that the institutional theory of art in George Dickie is one of the most famous attempts that sought to deal with the problem of what art is in the second half of the twentieth century. One of the most prominent features of the late formulation of this theory is that it is based on the cultural vision of art. This means that our standards and concepts of the nature that artworks should be upon are a product of the value system of an environment, in a certain period of time. The conclusion clarified that the circularity dilemma - one of the most prominent dilemmas facing this theory - can be addressed through the general framework of Dickie's theory that legitimizes cultural conventions. This cultural vision of art is the correct methodology, from the researcher's point of view, to inaugurate the concept of art. We have relied in our research on the critical analytical method, with the aim of analyzing the fundamentals of Dickie's theory, and evaluating it to determine its positives and negatives.
