The Media Discourse of Armed Terrorist Organizations (ISIS as a Model)

Abstract

This present study aims to monitor and analyze the structural features and characteristics of the media discourse of El-Nabaa newspaper, specifically, targeting Muslim Arabs and areas under the control of the ISIS organization. It seeks to understand the foundations and ideological dimensions of the Islamic State's discourse, as well as the extent to which this discourse serves as a key factor in the spread of extremism. The study also drives at extracting arguments and evidence, identify the involved actors and assigned roles. The study utilizes the theories of Media Frame Analysis and Post-Structuralism. The study relies on the qualitative analysis the discourse of El-Nabaa newspaper, an online publication issued by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, as part of the organization's media system.
Among the significant findings of the study, the order of issues that constitute the contextual framework within El-Nabaa newspaper is as follows: military and security issues ranked first with a percentage of 76.1%, followed by religious issues with 11.3%. Political issues ranked third with 8.6%, while economic issues accounted for 3.8% in the fourth place. Lastly, social issues appeared with a percentage of 0.2%
